Tear of the Ligaments and Menisci of the Knee joint: MRI evaluation

Abstract
|
|
|
During the period of 7 months from May 1989 to November 1989, 138 cases of 21 patients with traumatic injury on the knee, who underwent magnetic resonance imaging and were confirmed by arthroscopy at Soonchunhyang University Hospital, reveal the following results.
1. The accuracy for ligaments was 90.3% (sensitivity 92% specificity 91%)
2. The accuracy for menisci was 80% (sensitivity 50io, specificity 90%)
3. The overall results of the ligaments and menisci were 82.59! of sensitivity
and 89.4% of specificity.
4. MR imaging is an accurate mean for noninvasive assessment of the internal derangement of the knee, and may eventually replace the more invasive arthrography.
